Stourbridge 1 United 1 BGBSL
An own goal from Stephan Morley, some 20 minutes from time, gifted Stourbridge their first point of the season, cancelling out a first half Nicky Gordon penalty and preventing United from taking maximum points from the game. United took the lead on 32 minutes after Glassboys defender,Ross Collins handled the ball in the penalty area. Collins, who had already received a yellow card for an earlier offence when he elbowed Ollie Stanbridge in the face, escaped further punishment from the referee much to the amazement of United`s players and supporters alike. Nicky Gordon took the resulting penalty, putting the ball wide of Lewis Solly in the Stourbridge goal to make it two goals in two games for the young striker. Early in the second half Scott Bridges had a great chance to put United two up as he found himself in space with just the `keeper to beat,Solly saving at the second attempt. Just minutes later and Stourbridge were level after Morley diverted a cross from Les Hines past a wrong footed Joe Murrell in the Puritan`s goal.

United 0 Chasetown 0 Friendly
United ended their pre-season programme of matches with a goalless draw against Southern League Midland Division side Chasetown on Saturday.Chasetown, whose F A Cup heroics last season saw them beat Cambridge City,Nuneaton Borough and Port Vale before losing to Cardiff City in a televised 3rd Round tie, will feel themselves unlucky not to have come away with a victory after having 2 penalties saved and hitting the woodwork on numerous occasions. The first penalty came after Scholars Vaughan Thomas was adjudged to gave been held down.Gary Birch saw his spot-kick turned around the post by Joe Murrell for a corner, from which Chasetown hit first the crossbar and then a post as United struggled to clear the ball away. After United had their first effort on goal just before half time they had a second chance just inside the second half with Lewis Travers having a shot saved by Ryan Price. The Scholars were awarded a second penalty in the second half when substitute,Tony Onokah was brought down just inside the box.Wayne Dyer took the penalty for the visitors but he too was thwarted by Murrell who again pushed the ball out for a corner,Onokah`s header from the corner being punched clear by the young United `keeper. In the dying minutes United could have nicked it with a free kick but with Price tipping the ball over the crossbar the referee had already spotted a push in the box and stopped play for a Chasetown free-kick. -:- This result followed United`s fine 2-2 draw at Didcot Town in midweek. After going 2 goals down with strikes from Jack King and Michael Bartley,United fought back with 2 goals in the final two minutes from Paul Tocco, his first for the club and Anton Sambrook to earn United a draw, much to the disappointment of the home supporters. -:- United face another old foe this weekend when they kick off the 2008/9 season with a visit from Oxford City. This will be the first league meeting between the two sides and sees the return to the Spencer Stadium of former United players,James Saulsbury,George Redknap,Jon Gardner,Darren Pond and Andy Baird.

United 0 Racing Club Warwick 1 Friendly
United`s pre-season woes continue as they fail yet again to beat a team from a lower league. After losing to Southern League Division One Midland side Bedworth United the previous week, by a solitary goal, United lost by the same scoreline to Midland Alliance side Racing Club Warwick. In all honesty neither side looked like breaking the deadlock as United fielded several reserve players in a line up that was missing Ben Milner,Mark Essex,Tommy Kinch,Lewis Travers,Scott Bridges and Nicky Gordon, the decisive goal coming late in the game. -:- It`s not all gloom and doom in the camp, however, as several players have this week put pen to paper and commited themselves to United for the forthcoming season. Tom Breward has signed from Rugby Town while Andy Wheeler,Stuart Bridges and Matty Gooderick have all agreed to play for United this season with former United Reserve player,Terry Fitton also joining United.
