Corby Town 5 United 0
BGBSL

United`s tenure in the BGB Premier Division ended in dramatic fashion after they were hammered 5-nil at the Rockingham Triangle by a Corby side looking to wrap up the league title. The result not only sent United down to the eighth tier of the national game it also saw the Steelmen go in the opposite direction, promoted as champions.
It was alway going to be a tall ask for United to get the victory they needed against a well organised Corby side and from the first whistle United`s defence were under pressure from the home side`s front row but it took until the 44th minute for the first goal of the game to come,Leon Mettam opening the scoring for the home side.
On the hour mark United conceded a second through Steve Towers with Mettam scoring his second goal and Corby`s third on 70 minutes to end the game as a contest.
With the game all but over the home side still continued to press for more goals and they came in the final 15 minutes through a Joe Francis brace.
With some teams above them having had financial problems throughout the season United`s only chance of getting a reprieve would be if one of those teams had to fold otherwise they must now wait and see who they will be playing next season once all the play-offs have taken place and any promotion/relegation issues have been resolved.
-:-
United`s season is not quite over as they still have a cup to play for albeit the Buckingham Charity Cup.United take a 2 goal advantage to Bicester Town on Tuesday night for the second leg of their Semi Final.Should they get through United`s final game of the season will be the final to be played at Buckingham Town`s Ford Street ground on Bank Holiday Monday against either Buckingham Town or Leighton Town.
 -:-
United`s Reserves drew 1-1 with Barwell at the Spencer Stadium in the MFC Reserve Division. They have 3 more games to play with 2 at home over the Bank Holiday weekend so why not come down and give them your support.

Final Roundup

The final pieces of the jigsaw fell into place on Saturday with all the promotion and relegation issues finally resolved.
At the top of the table with Corby already crowned as Champions it was the play-off places that were decided following Saturdays results. The play-offs will be between Farnborough,Gloucester City,Cambridge City and Hemel Hempstead Town.
For the 4 teams it was a mixed bag of results.Boro won 3-nil at Stourbridge,Gloucester City lost 2-1 at Hemel and City drew 2-2 with relegated Yate Town at Milton Road.
Already relegated Mangotsfield United finished the season with a 3-2 win over Bedford Town at Cossham Street.Making up the quartet of relegated teams will be Hitchin Town, they suffered a 2-1 home defeat by Evesham United.
Despite losing their final games Rugby Town and Clevedon Town, both for a long time in danger of going down themselves, managed to avoid relegation as a consequence of results elsewhere.Town lost 3-1 at Bashley and the Seasiders lost 1-nil at home to Oxford City, who finished the season just shy of a play-off place.
Merthyr Tydfil finished just outside the play-offs and they enjoyed a 2-nil home success over Halesowen Town to finish the season.
Swindon Supermarine and Chippenham Town, two teams that at one time had looked like possible play-off contenders met at Hunts Copse with the Bluebirds winning 3-1.
Brackley Town finished their season with a 2-1 home defeat to Tiverton Town.
